Coldrain is a Japanese rock band formed in 2007. It is composed of six members including Masato Hayakawa, Ryo Yokochi, Kazuya Sugiyama, Ryo Shimizu, Katsuma Minatani. Hayakawa is the vocalist. All songs of the group are written in English since he's half American and is fluent in the language.
Coldrain debuted with their first full-length album titled Final Destination in 2009. It was released exclusively in Japan by VAP, Inc. On the album you will find three singles including Fiction, 8AM and the eponymous Final Destination. A year later the second of the group's albums and the first extended play was released. It is titled Nothing Lasts Forever and similar to its predecessor it was available only in Japan. It was not unitl the studio album The Revelation came out, when the members achieved an international recognition.
The vocalist Masato Hayakawa was born in Japan to an English mother and a Japanese father. Since he's accustomed to the English language, he write all the lyrics for the group. He is also responsible for the composition of the majority of Coldrain's songs. Ryo Yokochi is a guitarist and is often credited as the composer of many of the band's songs (alongside Masato). Kazuya Sugiyama is the second guitarist, while Ryo Shimizu serves as a bassist. The group has a very talented and skillful drummer Katsuma Minatani.
Masato Hayakawa was born in Nagoya, Japan in 1986. He and his then high school friend Katsuma Minatani formed a band named AVER in 2003. Soon afterwards they joined the other popular local band in Nagoya. That's how Coldrain was born. The first track the newly created formation made was Painting. Masato is very active when it comes to creating the music for the band. He, Yokochi and Sugiyama are the writers of almost all songs the group has released.
The group debuted with Final Destination in 2009. Their both first two albums including Nothing Lasts Forever were released only in Japan. Their third release and the second studio album titled The Enemy Inside had its premiere in 2011, and features To Be Alive and Rescue Me as the double title tracks. Their second EP titled Through Clarity came out in 2012, and was released in Europe in 2014. This was followed by their studio album The Revelation which was recorded in the United States and released woldwide by Hopeless Records and Sony Music. Seven different singles from the album were released. Their next releases were the extended play Until the End (2014), their full-lenght album Vena (2015) and a continuation Vena II (2016), studio albums Fateless (2017) and The Side Effects (2019).
